Day 1 - Introducing Novemberfast

Call On The Lord - Genesis 4:25-26 (ESV) And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, “God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.” To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord.

Why Fast? Why NovemberFast? Why Call On The LORD?

  • The first family had been through some stuff

    • Experienced perfection

    • Clarity of vision of all things

    • Deception brought imperfection

      • Personally

      • Collectively

      • Relationally

      • Blindness

    • Removed from Garden of Eden

    • Cain killed Abel

    • Seth was born “replacing” Abel

    • Adam: First generations experienced perfection

    • Seth: Second generation lived in the residue

    • Enoshe: Third generation only hears stories.

  • ENOSH - אֱנוֹשׁ means "man" or "human" often emphasizing human frailty or mortality.

  • “At That Time…”

  • Call - qara - spoken, proclamation, declaration, cry, invitation, summon. A formal intentional collective public seeking of God

There should come a moment when we look around and say, “Enough is enough. We want something different. We want something better. We want the best and this isn’t it. We want WHO they had so that We can enjoy what they had. Enosh recognized:

God / Heaven = Good

  • James 1:16–18 (ESV) Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Me / Earth ≠ Good

    • Isaiah 64:6–7 (ESV) We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. There is no one who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have made us melt in the hand of our iniquities

On Earth As In Heaven

    • Matthew 6:9–10 (ESV) Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Novemberfast: I Am Seeking Him

Jeremiah 29:10–14 (ESV) “For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

Novemberfast: I Am Seeking What Is MisAligned

Mark 8:23–26 (ESV) And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”

Novemberfast: I Am Seeking A Shift

Ezekiel 37:3–7 (ESV) And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.” So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling…

Discovering something is out of alignment is the start. Realignment is the goal. The shift comes:

  • Asking

  • Telling: Authority

  • Taking Action: Personal Responsibility

Psalm 27:8 (ESV) You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Deuteronomy 4:29 (ESV) But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Psalm 34:4 (ESV) I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
