BETTER TOGETHER: Immanuel, GOD IS WITH US

Matthew 1:20–23 (ESV) 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

Isaiah 8:8,10 (ESV) 8 O Immanuel... 10 GOD IS WITH US.

GOD... not the idea, not the essence, not the force, not a messenger, not even an angel, GOD!

God IS... not God was, not God will be, active, now, GOD IS!

God Is WITH... not missing, not lost, not unfindable, not far off, not around the corner, not even near. Neither theoretical nor conceptual. Practical. Present. His is not an absentee owner, a distant manager, or a casual observer. GOD IS WITH. Previously,  WITH was impossible . Our ability to be with God had been stolen by the Devil and we were separated. BUT God, 1 John 3:8 (ESV) 8 ...The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil - so that once again, anyone and everyone could experience WITH. And as if WITH was not enough... John 14:17 (ESV) ...he dwells with you and will be IN you. GOD IS WITH!

God Is With US! God is not with me. God is not with you. GOD IS WITH US! US was made clear from the beginning! God existed, but created man. “It’s not good enough,” so He created the woman. GOD IS WITH US. Later, Jesus could have shown up by Himself - no woman required! But He arrived within Mary. He could have shown up to Mary alone - clearly no man was required! He wanted Adam & Eve. He wanted Mary & Joseph. He wants you & me. Immanuel, GOD IS WITH US!

Immanuel is more than a name, and more than a person. .

IMMANUEL describes the right here and right now relationship that connects me to you, and you to us, and us to Him, making everything He died for within our reach!

  • Joseph knew what why his life mattered - Matthew 1:20–21 (ESV) 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

  • Mary - Luke 1:30–32 (ESV) 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

  • Most people are unsuccessfully searching to discover why they are here and what they should be doing

  • Destiny is revealed most often in the experience of US - preaching, prayer, prophecy.

  • Ministry is unlocked immediately as we experience Jesus and step into his functioning family and you begin to play your part.

  • It opened the door for Jesus as a child - Luke 2:46–47 (ESV) 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

  • It created the moment for Jesus as an adult - John 2:3–7 (ESV) 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.

  • It created the moment for the disciples - Mark 6:7–13 (ESV) 7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

  • It launches you. Your moment begins here.

  • You begin to fulfill your destiny and launch your ministry like Mary and Joseph, one diaper at a time.

  • Mary/Shepherds - Luke 2:15–19 (ESV) 15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.

  • Mary/Simeon - Luke 2:34–35 (ESV) 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

  • We are transformed by Him - 2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV) 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

John 15:5 (ESV) 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
